Bruises

First thing each morning I check my thigh and calf for the imprints your fingers left. They are fading — mahogany, purple, blue, green, yellow and now just the faintest gray.

I should be glad to see the traces of my stupid mistake disappear, but once they’re gone, there’s nothing left of you.
